Brian Turner
Brian Started at the age of 16 working for an architectural firm in Kelowna,
British Columbia. He continued as their chief draftsman during his high school and
university years. As an architectural draftsman, he was drawn to and experimented with
pen and ink and watercolour images. During his university training, he worked as a pen
and ink illustrator for the New World Archaeological Society at Brigham Young University
while focusing on watercolour classes. He graduated with a Bachelors and Masters
degrees of Education with a Fine Arts major.
Brian moved to Lethbridge, Alberta where he started his career as an educator
for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. With a large family and a busy
career, Brian laid aside his brushes until a few years before his retirement. For the past
11 years he has immersed himself in his watercolour paints again and continues to
explore a growing edge in the medium and in his artistic expression. His landscape and
cityscape interests draw from living and traveling across Canada. He now resides in Cochrane, Alberta.
"I have always loved the transparence of watercolour and the effects of light and dark in a
painting or a scene. I try to focus on the enhancement of colour and focal points that light
emphasizes. As a watercolourist, my interest is in exploring a realistic detailed
representation of landscape and cityscape scenes. Detailed images hold my interest
more than simplistic representation. I also love to explore various watercolour techniques
from traditional brushwork to poured watercolour."
