CHERYL LONG
Cheryl grew up in Quebec, and for many years lived in a small village in the Eastern Townships. Pencil and paper were constant companions.
Graduating from Concordia University in Montreal with a BFA, she went on to a varied and creative career as an illustrator, designer and visual artist. As well as Children’s Books, she has illustrated and designed dishware, botanical, medical illustration, board games, puzzles, catalogues, etc.. As a painter, she has participated in many group shows as well as held numerous solo exhibitions. Her paintings have sold to collectors across Canada and abroad.
Now living on Salt Spring Island, BC, she continues to write and illustrate children’s books, as well as poetry and stories for both children and adults. A love of anatomy and experience as a massage therapist lend her paintings a sensual, mystical quality that help her to express her love for the Canadian landscape. Cheryl draws inspiration from her travels across Canada, visiting our National Parks and wilderness areas.
Her goal as an artist is to express the Power and Grace she perceives in the landscape. Even though nature is both complex and subtle, she explains, her goal is to weave the many voices of nature she perceives into a unified expression. In painting, she searches for the underlying pattern and movement in the environment, allowing form and shape to emerge intuitively.
