Dimitri Sirenko
Dimitri has been involved in the visual arts in one form or another his entire life. When his parents introduced him to pen and paper it created a positively charged obsession in him. In 1999 his parents decided to seek a better life in Canada. Eventually Dimitri went to the Emily Carr University of Art and Design and graduated with a major in Media Arts specializing in 3D animation.
For nearly two subsequent years he worked in sales and customer service while painting digital fantasy related pictures, which were entries to weekly challenges and contests in concept art forums. His parents were extremely worried that he was beginning to fall into the starving artist category. He agreed with them that after two years of graduating if he did not have an industry job, he would reconsider his profession. Thankfully, it was the concept art forum that saved him. A local studio found Dimitri, and he was hired to do contract work for the video game Halo. This was a necessary first foot in the door of the industry.
For the next ten years he worked in numerous studios and on numerous projects – ranging from independent through too quite famous productions. His ambitions were to keep getting promoted to higher positions of leadership. He became a senior concept artist, then lead artist and finally, his dream job as an Art Director became reality; however, his heart was not complete. The job was becoming more and more of a job and not a means of artistic expression. Unfortunately money is a weird beast that both promotes and stagnates progress. And it definitely can take away the soul from creativity.
Thankfully he discovered several traditional live art competition events. After deciding to try his hand at them he started painting traditionally as practice after almost 10 years of not touching any tangible media. Dimitri was able to win many events including the Art Battle National Championship of 2018.
He was excited and amazed to see the appreciation of his work from friends, family and now strangers! Finally his plans started to gain momentum, and he decided to pursue his heartfelt ambition to be a full-time artist. He has never looked back.
