Kimberly Smith
Kimberly has been creating and teaching art for over 30 years in St Albert, Alberta. She has worked in
many mediums including ceramics, watercolour, oil, and acrylics. Kimberly is passionate about
learning and has studied different art forms with instructors and schools across Canada and the United
States.
She started working in Kiln fired art glass 18 years ago and it is in this medium that she has found a
home. In addition to teaching, she has spent many years focusing on commissioned art glass for private
collections. Her work is a reconstruction of art glass. Each piece is created by breaking and forming the glass through multiple kiln firings. This process of creating then breaking and recreating again allows her to manipulate the glass to meet her vision.
“All my art reflects the journey through trauma, depression, and anxiety. Working from broken glass or
building in layers is a process that mirrors the journey of restoring one’s life from the brokenness of
trauma. I use my art as an expression of my experiences and as a statement of the strength we gain
through adversity. Regardless of the challenges we face, I believe that, by choosing to seek out moments
of meaning and purpose, we write our own stories.”
Her inspiration comes from the breathtaking landscapes in her home province of Alberta and extends to
places she has visited across Canada.
