Lynn Garceau
Lynn Garceau was born and raised in Grand Mere, Quebec, a small picturesque town situated northeast of Shawinigan. Her mother recognized her talent, and introduced her to painting at an early age. In 1975, at the age of fifteen, Lynn took a correspondence course in drawing and her interest in the arts grew from there.
Lynn has experimented with many different media, but in 1992 she discovered the spontaneous nature of watercolours and how well their character merged with her own. Over the next few years, she participated in numerous workshops led by renowned artists such as Therese Fournier, Josee Perriault, Gilles Archambault, and Luigi Tiengo.
The move to the use of acrylic on canvas was a natural progression. Acrylic paint offers a vibrancy and permanence that Lynn was searching for to create her bright, richly coloured pieces. Fields of highly coloured flowers fill her canvasses in a joyful display of exuberance. Lynn’s trademark red and yellow tulips cannot help but make the viewer smile.
Her painting has led to many awards, in particular, first prize at the city of Grand-Mere Centennial in 1998 and the Ogilvy Award at the society of Canadian Watercolourists exhibition. Lynn teaches painting and surrounds herself with her family and garden, which are her ever-present inspiration.
