Paulina Tokarski
Paulina Tokarski is a self-taught artist, originally from Poland who found her way to Canada in 1988.
Her artistic journey began in her teenage years, where she immersed herself in acrylic painting. Over time, she expanded her repertoire to include acrylic inks and ventured into mixed media. Her true passion, lies in working with alcohol ink paint, where she finds endless possibilities for creativity.
Nature serves as her greatest muse, inspiring her with its diverse beauty in its shapes, textures, and colours. As an avid hiker, mountain climber, and skier, she finds solace and inspiration in her adventures in nature. These experiences fuel her creative exploration reflected in her art as she expresses herself and her surroundings through the imagination of her creative mind. After college, starting a family, and even building two successful businesses, she embarked on a new adventure, moving from the west coast of British Columbia to the majestic mountains with her family. Settling in Invermere, nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, Paulina discovered a deep connection to the outdoors, which has since become a driving force behind her art.
With features on CBC radio and numerous exhibitions, Paulina’s art has captured the hearts of collectors both in Canada and beyond.
“My art serves as a grounding force, connecting me deeply to myself and the vibrant world around me. Through my work, I strive to capture the stunning shapes, colours, and textures of nature and wildlife. Sometimes, I focus on specific subjects, aiming for a perfect balance between abstract and realistic forms. Other times, I let my creativity roam freely, producing abstract pieces that embody the raw essence of nature. I invite viewers to see the world through my creative lens, sparking wonder and curiosity with each piece
Alcohol ink is my primary medium, endlessly captivating with its mesmerizing interactions. As alcohol and ink dance together, they create magic—flowing, evaporating, and coming to life with each drop. The fluidity of alcohol ink allows me to craft art that seems to be in constant motion, with rich colours and textures that enthral the eye. Some pieces are further enhanced with acrylic paint and mixed media, adding depth and emotion to my creations.
Working with alcohol ink presents its challenges. A single drop of alcohol can blend and erase hours of work, teaching me to release attachment to evolving projects and embrace the medium’s unpredictable nature. I’ve come to appreciate the beauty of the unexpected and enjoy the artistic process as much as the final result.
Each piece I create reflects my surroundings and experiences—a testament to the beauty of the natural world and the sanctuary it offers for the mind and body. I strive to convey this sense of wonder through my art, inspiring others to cherish and celebrate the marvels of our natural world.”
